Before choosing a service

How to compare pool maintenance quotes

Two quotes can have different prices without covering the same work. Before choosing, check which pool has been assessed, what is included and what would cost extra. A lower price is not automatically worse: the aim is to compare equivalent proposals.

This guide is for homeowners with private pools. If you manage a residential community or several villas, agree the scope for each installation and the coordination required. A domestic fee does not automatically apply to all properties.

The same pool and starting conditions for both proposals.

Start with the same pool and condition

Give both companies the location, approximate dimensions, how the pool is used and its current condition. Mention green water, unexplained water loss or a known equipment problem. Restoring a neglected pool is not the same job as maintaining one that is already stable.

If you do not know the volume or equipment model, say so. Clarify missing information rather than comparing quotes based on different assumptions.

Check what each visit includes

A proposal may cover floor, wall or waterline cleaning, debris removal, skimmers and baskets, visual filtration checks and water monitoring. Ask for the tasks and limits that apply to your installation. A check does not mean every repair is included.

Confirm the visit frequency and whether it changes with the season or use. Do not assume weekly visits because another provider offers them: the commitment is the one written in your quote.

Separate products and additional work

Check which products are included, supplied by the owner or billed separately. Distinguish regular maintenance from materials, initial recovery and repairs. Ask how extra costs will be reported and who must approve them.

Compare the final amount, applicable taxes and conditions, not just the monthly fee. Do not assume every provider handles products or taxes in the same way.

Agree access and communication

If you will not be at the property, agree authorised access to the installation. Name the contact for issues and confirm any updates or visit report included in the service. A report helps explain what was checked; it does not replace the agreed scope or guarantee that every defect will be found.

Compare the two proposals

QuestionQuote AQuote B
Has the same pool and starting condition been assessed?
Which tasks are included and excluded?
What visit frequency is agreed and does it change by season?
Which products are included or charged separately?
Is initial recovery outside the regular fee?
What happens if an equipment problem is found?
Who approves additional costs?
How is access arranged when you are away?
What updates or visit report are agreed?
Are the amount, taxes and conditions clear?

A blank answer is not proof of poor service. It is a question to resolve before accepting. You can print this table and keep the answers with the quotes.

Ask for an assessment when there is an existing problem

If the water is green, a loss of water is unexplained or filtration is not working properly, explain this before agreeing regular maintenance. Recovery or repair may need a separate proposal. Do not assume a regular fee will solve every starting problem.
